Porch Restoration
This beautiful Oak Brook Porch Project started with a careful evaluation. The continual challenge for this wood framed + trimmed Entry Porch is that it faces to the north, receiving minimal sun throughout the day, making it prone to rot. The home builder also set the support framing lumber and trim directly on the blue stone porch surface, creating a situation where the existing wood acted like a sponge to any snow and rain on the porch surface. After removing the rot and replacing the framing lumber (as necessary) we added proper anchors and supports which allow the new lumber to breathe by not being in direct contact with the stone surface. For the trim as added a new chair rail detail, allowing us to not replace all the vertical grain prime cedar siding, repurposing most of it and replacing as necessary. The result was a stunning new porch exterior facade which will stand up to the northern exposure + weather for year’s to come!

First, we started with an evaluation of the rot damage on this north facing entry porch.
From there, we installed a temporary support wall, removed the cedar, exposing the extent of the rot damage.
As the project started to take shape, we rebuilt the structural support, adding new anchors + support pads.
In the Shop we recreated the side cedar X Rails .
As the project started to take shape, we removed reinstalled the repurposed cedar cladding, adding new material as necessary.
In the end, this restoration project came together with an enhanced design and functionality which will stand up to the weather for year’s to come. The homeowners were delighted with their renewed entry porch!
